Samaritan’s Purse is preparing to deploy a 52-bed Emergency Field Hospital with approximately 75 staff as early as this weekend and airlifting much-needed items, such as hygiene items and tarp for distribution into the hardest-hit areas.

There are Nazarene churches in affected areas of Syria, and after the first tremor, the pastors and members of these churches immediately began serving their neighbors in need. Having escaped without damage, each church is open as a shelter for people who are afraid or unable to return home, and both congregations are distributing hot meals and blankets. In Aleppo, church members have visited hospitals and shelters to pass out cold-weather gear, food, and medicine.

Nazarenes churches worldwide are currently engaged in relief efforts in Syria through funds and supplies. A Nazarene Compassionate Ministry partner organization in Germany, Helping Hands, coordinates deliveries of essential items.  The Church of the Nazarene has no congregations in Turkey. Any relief efforts there will be centered on supporting partner organizations as needed

Our team and local partners have launched an immediate response, evacuating civilians and injured people, providing critical medical assistance and supplying refugee centers that are hosting families who have been displaced by the earthquake.

Our priority will include helping support affected people with access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), health, shelter, and protection. Our immediate response areas will cover Gaziantep and Sanliurfa in Turkey, as well as Azaz, Afrin, and Idlib in northern Syria. Currently, we distributing fuel and heat to shelters as cold and sub-zero temperatures are of immediate concern.
