Kentro Christian Network Urges Canada to ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ by Investing in Both Home and Global Fronts
By Kentro Christian Network
In last week’s federal budget, we saw encouraging steps toward caring for our neighbours here at home — but also a troubling step back from caring for those beyond our borders.
At Kentro Christian Network, we believe that loving our neighbours doesn’t stop at our street or city limits. It’s a call that stretches across borders — a reflection of both our faith and our shared humanity.
That’s why our response to the 2025 Federal Budget welcomes new investments in affordable housing and community well-being, while raising deep concern over the government’s decision to reduce international assistance by $2.7 billion over the next four years.
Cuts of this scale don’t just affect faraway communities — they diminish Canada’s ability to build trust, strengthen partnerships, and live out our values globally. As our Executive Director, Laura Solberg, notes, “Investing in international assistance is not mere charity — it’s a shared and strategic investment that also strengthens Canada’s security and standing.”
We believe Canada can be more than a “middle power.” We can be a model power — a country defined not by size or wealth, but by the integrity and efficacy of our actions and the compassion that drives them.
